why should i hire an interior designer?

Many of our clients are unfamiliar with what an interior designer does and how they may be able to serve you whether that be in your home or in a commercial space.

The International Interior Design Association defines interior design as “the professional and comprehensive practice of creating an interior environment that addresses, protects, and responds to human need(s). It is the art, science, and business planning of a creative, technical, sustainable, and functional interior solution that corresponds to the architecture of a space, while incorporating process and strategy, a mandate for well-being, safety, and health, with informed decisions about style and aesthetics.”

Interior designers have specialized education, knowledge and training in design principles, color theory, space planning, and materials. Their expertise allows them to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces that support your vision and goals.

We, Jamey & Erin, co-founders and designers at Bound Collaborative, are both Certified Interior Designers (CID) in the state of Minnesota. This means we have met specific educational,  and experiential requirements and have passed a certification exam in order to practice interior design legally and professionally. The state requires continuing education and regulations for professional practice associated with being CID.

Hiring an interior designer, like Bound Collaborative, can offer numerous benefits, depending on your needs, preferences, and budget.

  • Save Time and Stress: Planning and executing a residential or commercial project can be time-consuming and overwhelming. Interior designers can oversee the entire project and take on all the details, from sourcing materials to coordinating contractors, streamlining decision making and freeing you from the stress and hassle of managing the project yourself.

  • Personalized Design: Interior designers work closely with you to understand your needs, preferences, and style. They create customized design solutions that reflect your personality and unique tastes, resulting in a space that feels truly yours.

  • Budget Management: Interior designers can help you make informed decisions that align with your budget. They have access to a wide range of suppliers and resources, enabling them to find cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.

  • Resources: Designers have access to a network of suppliers, artisans, and contractors, which can help you source unique and high-quality furnishings, materials, millwork, art and decor that may not be readily available to the general public.

  • Collaboration: At Bound Collaborative we are experienced at working closely with architects, engineers, contractors and other allied professionals. We have a variety of consultants we work with on a consistent basis to engage the right team for your project when something is needed beyond our expertise.

  • Planning and Functionality: Interior designers excel in optimizing the functionality of a space. They can create layouts that maximize usability, flow, storage and efficiency while ensuring that the space is beautiful and comfortable.

  • Attention to Detail: Interior designers pay very close attention to detail, ensuring that every element of your design aligns with the overall concept. This includes selecting the right colors, finishes, textures, lighting, and accessories to create a cohesive and appealing space.

  • Value Addition: A well-designed interior can increase the value of your home or property. In the commercial world, a professionally designed space can help recruit and retain employees, increase productivity, enhance brand awareness and attract new customers.

  • Material & Environmental Health: Interior designers are educated and informed in manufacturing processes and materials to make selections for your space that are healthy for those within it while also being environmentally sustainable.

  • Resolve Design Challenges: If you're facing design challenges like a small space, an unusual layout, or specific functional requirements, interior designers have the skills and creativity to find effective solutions.

While hiring an interior designer involves an investment, the value they bring to your project in terms of aesthetics, functionality, and peace of mind can often justify the cost. Ultimately, the decision to hire an interior designer should align with your goals and budget for your interior design project.
